Great Bay
offers a diversity of land and water areas around the estuary, such as
salt marshes, rocky shores, bluffs, woodlands, open fields, and
riverine systems and tidal waters. It is located 10 miles inland from
the coast of New Hampshire and the Maine border. Great Bay has a rich
cultural history and was the first major commercial waterway developed
by the early settlers.
The Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is part of a national network of protected areas established for long-term research, education and stewardship, and the Great Bay Discovery Center (formerly known as Sandy Point) in Greenland, NH which serves as the conservation-education headquarters for the Reserve.
Lubberland Creek Preserve(trail brochure) is a 120-acre preserve features a unique salt marsh and a rich upland
forest community, providing habitat for deer, wild turkey, and fisher.
The Sandy Point trail system(brochure) is located at the Great Bay Discovery Center.
